Wimbledon Adopts Video Replay System in 2025.

The Championships court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Australian Opens in employing video review technology.

Video review systems will be launched at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.

Players are granted the right to contest particular decisions made by the chair umpire, mirroring the system already in operation at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.

This innovation will be accessible on the main stadium and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.

This step follows just a season following the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the 147-year tradition of line judges.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the official to re-examine other situations, including:

  • Whether a ball has double-bounced.
  • Whether a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
  • Possible interference end of a point.

Notably, there will be no limit on the number of reviews a player can initiate.

A Recent Example

A recent example took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a tough call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and ruled the player was responsible for interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.

Wider Implementation

This technology are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its tournaments.

Additional Innovations

Another change at Wimbledon this year involves the introduction of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.

In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
