Each time a significant prize-giving event draws close, there’s always a demand for introducing additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.
My colleague previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.
- An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely in 2014
- A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
- A beloved organization game got ignored that year
- Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often small games, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, while interacting with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier game development, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
